Early in the morning of New Years Eve 2007, Toby was found deceased in a park, on the western perimeter of Adelaide’s CBD.
A kind stranger, driving near the west parklands, saw what she thought was someone sleeping in the middle of the oval, and – because the day was expected to be hot – she stopped to awaken the sleeper.
As she approached, she realised the person wasn’t sleeping and phoned the police.
The police began an investigation into Toby’s death, which they considered suspicious.
They arrested a suspect 72 hours later.
